Utah State University announced on March 30 that sophomore Ayodele Ojo, Jr. from the track and field team has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 29. The award is decided by a state-wide media panel.
The recognition highlights Ojo’s recent performance at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational, where he ran the 100 meters in 10.14 seconds—just one hundredth of a second short of tying Utah State’s record. He finished as the top collegiate runner and second overall in his event, moving from fourth to second place in school history for this distance. His altitude-adjusted time of 10.17 seconds is currently ranked best in the Mountain West Conference and sixth nationally.
America First Credit Union supports student-athletes by donating funds to scholarships through its sponsorship of this weekly award.
Other nominees for Student-Athlete of the Week included Chase Goetschel from men’s golf, Jazmin Ramirez from softball, Xavier Calvelo from men’s tennis, Maria Paula Ramos Garcia from women’s tennis, and Shay Jones from women’s outdoor track and field. Their performances ranged from career-best finishes to key contributions in team victories over their respective competition during the same week.
The university maintains active social media accounts for fans who wish to follow updates on Utah State athletics across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.
