Utah State sophomore Chase Goetschel finished tied for fifth after shooting a career-low 5-under-par 211 at the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate, hosted by Minnesota and held March 24-25 at the Gold Course at Wigwam Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona.
Goetschel’s performance marks his best collegiate finish to date. He opened with a 3-under 69, followed by rounds of 1-under 71 and 2-under 70. This tournament gave him seven career rounds under par and three in the 60s. His final score of 211 over three rounds is both his lowest total and best score relative to par so far in his college career.
Marquette University won the team competition among seventeen teams with a combined score of 21-under-par (843). Utah State placed twelfth overall with a total of ten-over-par (874). Maryland’s Emil Riegger took individual medalist honors after finishing at ten-under-par (206).
Other notable performances from Utah State included sophomore Toby Heider, who tied for twenty-second place with a one-under-par total of 215. Heider posted scores of even-par (72), two-under (70), and one-over (73), marking his fourth under-par tournament as well as tying his second-best three-round score. Sophomore Noah Moody also achieved a milestone by carding his first collegiate round in the sixties with an opening round of three-under (69) before finishing tied for thirty-third overall.
Senior Luis Cantu and sophomore Hunter Hall each finished tied for eighty-eighth place at seventeen-over-par (233).
Utah State will continue its spring season from March 31 to April 1 when it competes in the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona.
