Utah State University announced on Mar. 24 that freshman Henry Tait has been named Mountain West Men’s Freshman of the Week by the league.
This recognition comes after Tait finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at his first collegiate outdoor meet, recording a time of 9:19.62 at the Utah Tech Invitational on Friday. His performance currently leads all athletes in the Mountain West and is ranked as the second-fastest among freshmen nationwide this season. In addition, Tait’s time places him ninth overall in Division I for this event.
Tait’s honor marks his first career weekly award from the conference and represents Utah State’s first such accolade of the outdoor track and field campaign. During the recent indoor season, Utah State student-athletes earned a total of 12 weekly awards from Mountain West—setting a new program record and marking their second consecutive indoor season with at least ten awards.
The Aggies are scheduled to compete next at the UVU Collegiate Invitational in Orem, Utah, on Thursday, March 26.
