Utah State gymnast Mya Witte has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 22, according to a statement released on Mar. 24. The honor is determined by a state-wide media panel and marks Witte’s first time receiving this recognition.
The award highlights outstanding achievements among Utah State University student-athletes and is supported by America First Credit Union, which donates funds directly to student-athlete scholarships as part of its sponsorship.
Witte, a junior from Greenacres, Florida, was recently named Mountain West Championship MVP after helping Utah State secure its second consecutive Mountain West Postseason Championship with a team score of 196.400. She claimed the beam title with a career-high score of 9.950 and added a vault score of 9.700. Her performance on beam ties for the second highest in program history, making her one of only eight Utah State gymnasts ever to achieve a score of 9.950 or better in that event.
Utah State will next compete at its 29th NCAA Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, facing No. 7 Stanford, No. 10 Michigan and No. 22 North Carolina on April 2 at noon Mountain Time.
Other nominees for this week’s award included Mason Falslev from men’s basketball; Kaylee Erickson from softball; Roman Venger from men’s tennis; Sabina Pintea from women’s tennis; Sam Beckwith from men’s outdoor track and field; and Claire Petersen from women’s outdoor track and field.
The recognition continues an ongoing tradition celebrating athletic excellence at Utah State University.
