Cost of college went up for all students at Utah State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.4 percent for 2018-19 at Utah State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Utah residents paid $8,138 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $268 more than the $7,870 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 174.2 percent more than residents this year, or $22,316. Their price tag grew 3.7 percent from $21,520 in 2017-18.

About 70 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Utah residents. About 28 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,115 students received grants or scholarships totaling $25.6 million and 1,158 students took out student loans totaling more than $7.3 million.

Including all undergraduates (27,932), 14,091 students used grants or scholarships totaling $106 million, and 7,254 students took out $41.9 million in federal student loans.
