Utah State University announced on March 10 that two of its gymnasts, junior Nyla Morabito and freshman Mara Gruber, have earned weekly honors from the Mountain West Conference following strong performances in recent meets. The Aggies secured wins over Southern Utah with a score of 196.875-195.725 and No. 25 Oregon State with a score of 196.650-196.150.
These recognitions highlight the athletes’ contributions to what has become one of the most successful stretches in program history. Utah State’s score at Southern Utah marks the third-highest in school history, while their home performance against Oregon State is both the third-highest home score ever and ranks tenth overall for the program.
Morabito was named Mountain West Floor Specialist of the Week after tying her career-high with a 9.925 on floor exercise against Oregon State, which helped USU achieve a season-best team floor score of 49.325. This is her first time receiving this honor this year and fourth overall in her career, bringing her total conference honors to eleven.
Gruber was recognized as Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Week for her performance on floor, where she tied for third place with a score of 9.875 against Oregon State and contributed to the team’s season-best event total. This marks Gruber’s third conference honor this year; she has twice been named Freshman of the Week and once as Floor Co-Specialist of the Week. She currently ranks fourth in the Mountain West and twenty-fourth in the North Central Region with a National Qualifying Score on floor of 9.845, making her only the fifth Aggie gymnast to earn Freshman of the Week accolades.
Utah State (15-4 overall, 4-2 Mountain West) will conclude its regular season at the Arizona State Tri Meet on Sunday, March 15, competing against host Arizona State (9-8) and Southeast Missouri (14-6).
