Utah State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker announced on Mar. 24 that the university has started a national search for its next men’s basketball head coach following the departure of Jerrod Calhoun.
Walker said he is grateful for Calhoun’s leadership over the past two seasons, which included two NCAA Tournament appearances, regular-season and tournament championships, and a recent victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. “I am thankful for Jerrod’s efforts the last two seasons leading our men’s basketball program, including two NCAA Tournament appearances, regular-season and tournament championships, and most recently a victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament,” Walker said. “I wish him, Sarah and their daughters all the best.”
The Utah State men’s basketball program has participated in 26 NCAA Tournaments overall. The team has appeared in four consecutive tournaments and six out of the last eight years; Utah State also qualified for the canceled 2020 event due to COVID-19. Since 2000, they have played in 14 tournaments.
In recent years, Utah State achieved notable success with 29 wins during the 2025-26 season—marking their fourth straight season with at least 25 victories, which is a first in program history. The Aggies secured both Mountain West regular-season and tournament titles this year as well.
The program has produced nine player-of-the-year honorees and received a total of 89 all-conference selections throughout its history.
“Utah State men’s basketball is one of the premier basketball programs in the country,” Walker said. “We will continue investing at a high level as we pursue championships and competitive excellence in the new Pac-12. The support of Cache Valley further enhances this amazing opportunity in Logan. Our fans and the HURD are phenomenal. We will work relentlessly to identify the next men’s basketball leader, who will continue to build on our rich tradition.” A national search for Calhoun’s successor will begin immediately.
