Utah State University’s track and field teams continued their participation at the 2026 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships in Reno, Nevada, on Friday. The Aggies collected 12 team points on the second day of competition and recorded one performance that ranks among the top-10 in school history.
Senior Javin Richards secured a bronze medal in the men’s heptathlon, accumulating 5,457 points. Richards moved into podium position after a season-best pole vault of 5.20 meters (17-0.75). This result marks his fifth career Mountain West medal. “Richards collected his fifth career MW medal and will look for a sixth tomorrow in the men’s pole vault competition.” Boise State’s Landon Helms took gold with a conference record of 5,964 points.
In other events, junior Sam Beckwith finished sixth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.27 meters (23-10.25), scoring for Utah State at this meet for the third time in his career. Boise State’s Raekwon Weatherspoon won the event with a jump of 7.83 meters (25-8.25).
On the women’s side, senior Milly Garren placed eighth in the weight throw with her best mark coming on her first attempt at 16.92 meters (55-6.25). Colorado State’s Kajsa Borrman claimed first place with a throw of 22.16 meters (72-8.5).
Junior Joseph Turner achieved a personal best of 17.96 meters (58-11.25) to finish seventh in the men’s weight throw, earning two team points after qualifying for the event final on his third attempt. Air Force’s Texas Tanner won with a distance of 23.31 meters (76-5.75).
Sophomore Ayodele Ojo, Jr., who holds both Utah State and Mountain West records in the men’s 60 meters, led all qualifiers for Saturday’s final with a preliminary time of 6.60 seconds in his heat. Freshman David Konan also advanced to the final by finishing second in his heat and tying his personal best at 6.72 seconds.
Sophomore Shay Jones advanced to the women’s 400-meter final after winning her heat and posting a time of 53.70 seconds—a personal best improvement by nearly one second—moving her from fifth to second all-time at Utah State.
In the men’s 800 meters, seniors Ernest Green and Samuel Green along with freshman Tayshaun Ogomo qualified for Saturday’s final after placing third, fourth, and eighth respectively in preliminaries.
Junior Shelby Jensen earned qualification for the women’s mile final by running 4:50.49 and placing third in her heat—the fastest among time qualifiers.
Freshman Ethan Peterson advanced to the men’s mile final by finishing sixth in his heat with a time of 4:08.33.
After two days of competition, Utah State’s men are tied for fourth place overall with Boise State at 23 points while Utah State’s women are ninth with 14.5 points; Colorado State leads on the men’s side with 50 points while New Mexico is ahead among women with 49 points.
Finals scheduled for Saturday include multiple track events as well as field competitions such as shot put, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault; coverage continues live via Mountain West Network.
