Utah State University announced on Mar. 23 that its football team will play a home and home series against the University of Utah in the upcoming 2031 and 2033 seasons.

The announcement highlights the continuation of one of the most played rivalries in western United States college football, often referred to as the Battle of the Brothers. The games are scheduled for Aug. 28, 2031, at Maverik Stadium in Logan, and Sept. 1, 2033, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker said, “As we continue to build momentum within our department, this series represents a strategic step forward for Utah State Football. Competing against a nationally respected in-state opponent aligns with our vision to strengthen our schedule, grow our visibility, and position our program for long-term success.” Walker also said: “Bringing a premier in-state opponent to Maverik Stadium creates an electric atmosphere. In-state matchups energize our fan base, create meaningful experiences for our student-athletes, and are good for the entire state. We look forward to Aggie football competing at the highest level moving forward.”

Additionally, Utah State announced that its previously scheduled road game against Utah during the 2031 season will now be played earlier on Sept. 14, 2030.

The two programs have met on the field a total of 113 times—the most played series for both schools—and last faced each other in Logan during the 2024 campaign after not meeting for nine seasons prior to that game. The rivalry began on Nov. 25, 1892—also marking both teams’ first-ever contest—with Utah State winning that initial matchup.
