Utah State University’s men’s golf team will travel to Santa Barbara, California, to participate in the Gaucho Invitational hosted by UC Santa Barbara on April 6 and 7.
The tournament will be held at Sandpiper Golf Club, a par-72 course measuring 7,159 yards. The event will feature nine teams: Utah State, host UC Santa Barbara, Boise State, Creighton, Denver, North Dakota, UC Riverside, Utah Tech and Westmont. Players are scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and an additional 18 holes on Tuesday with shotgun starts at 10:30 a.m. Mountain Time each day. Representing Utah State in the lineup are sophomore Chase Goetschel from Trabuco Canyon, California; sophomore Noah Moody from Vineyard, Utah; freshman Zach Skinner from Providence, Utah; sophomore Hunter Hall from Cody, Wyoming; and senior Luis Cantu from Monterrey, Mexico.
Last week at the Cowboy Classic hosted by Wyoming in Maricopa, Arizona’s Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, Utah State finished fifteenth out of twenty-five teams with a total score of fourteen-over-par (878). Goetschel led the Aggies with a tie for thirty-third place after posting one-under-par (215), marking his third under-par finish this season and his second consecutive week achieving this result.
Goetschel currently leads the team with a stroke average of 72.58 over twenty-four rounds. Moody follows with an average of 73.33 over twenty-four rounds as well. Cantu has averaged seventy-five strokes over fifteen rounds while Skinner averages seventy-five point four eight over twenty-one rounds and Hall averages seventy-six point five six across nine rounds.
