Utah State’s men’s golf team will travel to Maricopa, Arizona, to participate in the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic on March 31 and April 1 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
The tournament will feature a field of 25 teams, including Utah State and host Wyoming. Other participating schools are Arkansas State, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Iowa State, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Diego, San Francisco, South Dakota State, USC, Southern Utah, St. Mary’s (CA), UC Irvine, UNLV, South Florida, UT Arlington, UTEP, Utah Valley University (UVU), Weber State University (WSU), Western Carolina and Wichita State. The course is set as a par-72 over 7,330 yards.
The format includes 36 holes on Tuesday followed by 18 holes on Wednesday with an 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time shotgun start each day. Live scoring for the event will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
Scheduled to compete for Utah State are sophomores Chase Goetschel of Trabuco Canyon (California), Toby Heider of Kimberly (Idaho), Noah Moody of Vineyard (Utah), Hunter Hall of Cody (Wyoming) and freshman Zach Skinner from Providence (Utah). Goetschel currently leads the Aggies with a stroke average of 72.71 over 21 rounds this season.
Last week at the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate hosted by Minnesota in Peoria (Arizona), Utah State finished twelfth out of seventeen teams with a total score of ten-over-par 874. Goetschel led the Aggies by tying for fifth place individually with his best collegiate finish—a five-under-par total across three rounds.
