Utah State golf finished tied for fourth place on Apr. 7 at the UC Santa Barbara-hosted Gaucho Invitational, held at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, California. The Aggies recorded a final round of 2-over-par 290 and completed the tournament with a total score of 10-over 874.
This result marks Utah State’s best finish of the season and their first top five placing this year. Their overall score also ties for their second-best performance over three rounds this season.
UC Santa Barbara won the event among nine teams with a score of 9-under-par 855, while Denver’s Zander Grant claimed individual medalist honors by finishing at six under par.
Sophomore Chase Goetschel and freshman Zach Skinner led Utah State, both tying for eleventh place individually with scores of one over par. Goetschel achieved his second-best finish this season, while Skinner posted his best collegiate result so far. “Goetschel began the tournament with a 1-over 73, followed by a 2-over 74 and concluded the tournament with a 2-under 70 for his ninth round under par this year.” “Skinner carded an even-par 72 to begin the tournament, followed by a 1-over 73 during his second round, and another even-par 72 to conclude play.”
Other notable performances included sophomore Hunter Hall tying for twentieth place at four over par—his first career top twenty placing—and sophomore Noah Moody tying for twenty-fourth at six over par. Senior Luis Cantu finished tied for thirty-fourth.
Utah State will continue its spring season on Sunday, May 3, competing in the Mountain West Championships in Tucson, Arizona.
