Utah State University’s women’s gymnastics team secured a close win over Air Force, finishing with a score of 196.025 to 195.825 in Mountain West Conference action on Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
With this victory, Utah State’s season record improves to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in conference competition. This marks the program’s best start since the 1999 season and ties for the fourth-best opening stretch in school history.
The Aggies began strongly on vault, recording a season-high score of 49.075 as five gymnasts achieved career-best performances. On bars, Utah State posted a total of 48.825 before matching their second-best beam score of the year with another 49.075. The meet concluded with a floor rotation that saw the Aggies tallying 49.050 points.
Junior Nyla Morabito tied for first place on floor exercise with a season-high score of 9.850, marking her eighth event title this year and her first on floor during this campaign.
Head coach Kristin White commented after the meet: “Incredibly proud of our women. We knew that we needed to secure the win tonight at home. They rose to the challenge, really focused on the details, and stayed together the entire meet. Very proud of them and excited for the rest of the year.”
Utah State registered six career-high scores during Friday’s competition along with one season-high mark.
Next week, Utah State will compete twice—first traveling to Southern Utah on Monday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m., then returning home to host Oregon State for Senior Night on Friday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m.
