Utah State University’s women’s gymnastics team is set to compete against Southern Utah University on Monday, March 2, in Cedar City. The dual meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the America First Event Center and will be streamed live on Overnght.com, with live scoring available via Virti.us.
Utah State enters the meet with a 13-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Mountain West competition. The Aggies are currently ranked 30th nationally in the Road to Nationals Poll, while Southern Utah holds the 28th spot.
Head coach Kristin White commented on her team’s preparation following their recent win: “Coming off a regular season clinching win, I can’t think of a better way to be motivated going into tomorrow’s competition. Details will be key. We’ve seen Southern Utah three times this year and we know what to expect. Looking forward to another opportunity to do what we love – together.”
With their victory over Air Force last weekend, Utah State secured at least a share of the Mountain West Regular Season Championship. This marks the program’s eighth conference title and its second consecutive year winning either the regular season or postseason championship.
The Aggies’ current start is one of their best in history, matching their fourth-best opening record for a season since beginning 14-3 in 1999. They lead the Mountain West in several events heading into week seven of competition, including bars (24th nationally), floor (30th), beam (30th), and vault (39th).
Several athletes have posted notable individual performances this season. Junior Nyla Morabito leads the conference on vault and ranks 53rd nationally with an NQS of 9.835; she has won nine career vault titles—seventh-most in program history—and six this season alone, tying for fifth-most in a single year for Utah State gymnasts. Morabito also claimed her first floor title of the season against Air Force with a score of 9.850.
Other standouts include junior Isabella Vater (second in MW and 53rd nationally on floor), sophomore Olivia Orengo (second MW/55th nation on bars), and junior Sydney Jelen (second MW/70th nation on beam).
Southern Utah brings its own strong performances into Monday’s meet, ranking among the top teams nationally across all four apparatuses: floor (25th), bars (27th), beam (27th), and vault (32nd). Junior Niya Randolph is ranked No. 26 nationally as an all-around competitor.
The two programs have already met three times this year, each time resulting in wins for Utah State by narrow margins—including victories at both neutral sites and home meets.
In their most recent outing against Air Force last Friday, Utah State posted its second straight score above 196 points—a feat highlighted by six career-highs from various team members across different events.
After facing Southern Utah, Utah State will return home to host Oregon State on March 6 before honoring seniors Avery Bibbey, Amari Evans, Marley Peterson, and Chelsea Southam after that meet.
