Utah State University’s men’s basketball team will face San Diego State in an away game on Wednesday, February 25, at 9 p.m. Mountain Time. The matchup comes as the Aggies play their second consecutive road game.
Utah State currently leads the Mountain West Conference with a 13-3 record in league play and has four games remaining in the regular season. San Diego State is tied for second place with New Mexico, both holding a 12-4 conference record.
The Aggies are ranked No. 24 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) Rankings and No. 23 by KenPom, making them the highest-ranked Mountain West team in the NET system. Eight teams from the conference are among the top 100 nationally.
Throughout this season, Utah State has received votes or been ranked in most Associated Press (AP) and USA Today Coaches Polls, including eight AP votes and seven coaches poll votes this week.
With a winning percentage of .852, Utah State is currently ranked 14th nationally in that category.
The team’s final five games will be against opponents who are currently ranked second through sixth in the Mountain West standings. All of these matchups qualify as either Quad 1 or Quad 2 games under NCAA criteria.
Utah State has reached at least 20 wins for the thirty-fifth time in its history and has accomplished this feat for four consecutive seasons and seven times over the past eight years.
Senior guard MJ Collins Jr. and junior guard Mason Falslev are among the top scorers in the conference, both ranking within the top ten for scoring average and shooting percentage. Utah State is also unique within its conference as it is the only team with two players averaging at least fifteen points per game.
Graduate guard Drake Allen and Mason Falslev lead all players in steals per game within the league, averaging just above two steals each per contest. As a unit, Utah State ranks eighteenth nationally with an average of nine steals per game.
Wednesday’s meeting will be the thirty-fourth all-time between Utah State and San Diego State. Historically, Utah State trails San Diego State with a record of thirteen wins to twenty losses but has won three straight games against them and four out of their last five meetings. Since 2019, Utah State holds a narrow advantage with ten wins to nine losses over San Diego State. In their previous encounter earlier this season held in Logan, Utah State won by a score of seventy-one to sixty-six.
