Utah State men’s tennis secured a 4-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on March 8 at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Florida.
The win is significant for Utah State as it continues its season with a strong performance away from home. The Aggies improved their record to 7-4 overall.
In doubles play, Jean-Baptiste Badon and Dmitri Goubin gave Utah State an early advantage with a decisive 6-1 win at the second position. Xavier Calvelo and Jakub Medved followed up with a 6-2 victory at the top spot, clinching the doubles point for the Aggies. The third doubles match was left unfinished with Eliot Nobel and Roman Venger tied at 4-4.
During singles competition, Florida Gulf Coast earned its only point of the day at No. 6 singles. Badon responded for Utah State by winning his match at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Venger extended the lead with a dominant performance at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3. Nobel then clinched the overall match for Utah State by defeating his opponent at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Matches involving Calvelo and Medved were halted after the team result was decided.
Utah State will continue its road trip in Florida with a match against Florida Atlantic on Tuesday, March 10.
