Utah State men’s tennis lost a close match to Florida Atlantic, 4-3, on March 10 at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton, Florida. The Aggies now hold a 7-5 record as they prepare to begin Mountain West conference play next week.

The match was Utah State’s fifth one-point contest of the season. The Aggies started strong by winning the doubles point with victories at the top two spots. Xavier Calvelo and Jakub Medved won their No. 1 doubles match without dropping a game, finishing 6-0. After Florida Atlantic took the third doubles position, Jean-Baptiste Badon and Dmitri Goubin secured a tiebreak win at No. 2 doubles, giving Utah State an early lead.

In singles play, Florida Atlantic tied the score with a win on court four. Calvelo earned another point for Utah State after his opponent retired while trailing in their match. Goubin also contributed with his second victory of the day at No. 6 singles, putting Utah State ahead 3-1. However, Florida Atlantic came back to win the final three singles matches—including two that went to three sets—securing the overall team victory.

Utah State will return home to start Mountain West play with two matches at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. The Aggies are scheduled to host UNLV on Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m., followed by Nevada on Sunday, March 22 at 10 a.m.
