Utah State men’s tennis team received both Mountain West weekly honors, as sophomore Roman Venger was named Player of the Week and freshman Jakub Medved earned Freshman of the Week, according to a March 25 announcement from the conference.

The recognition highlights Utah State’s strong start in Mountain West play. Both athletes contributed to back-to-back 4-0 conference wins over No. 61 UNLV and Nevada.

Venger posted a perfect record across singles and doubles matches, helping Utah State secure victories against both opponents. He clinched the deciding point in each match with identical 6-4, 6-4 wins at No. 3 singles against UNLV and Nevada. In doubles play with Eliot Nobel, Venger also recorded a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles versus UNLV to help secure the doubles point for his team. This marks Venger’s first career conference player of the week award.

Medved contributed two wins during Utah State’s sweep of Nevada. Partnering with Xavier Calvelo at No.1 doubles, he helped clinch that point with a decisive 6-2 victory before becoming the first Aggie to finish in singles play with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-3) at position five. This is Medved’s second time receiving freshman of the week honors this season after earning it previously on Feb. 4.

Looking ahead, Utah State will continue its Mountain West schedule on Friday, March 27 when they face New Mexico on the road.
