Utah State men’s tennis defeated No. 61-ranked UNLV with a 4-0 sweep to open its Mountain West schedule on March 20 at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

The match marked an important start for Utah State as it began conference play against a nationally ranked opponent. The Aggies secured the doubles point with wins at the second and third positions, setting the tone for the rest of the contest.

In doubles, Eliot Nobel and Roman Venger won decisively at the third spot, while Jean-Baptiste Badon and Dmitri Goubin clinched a close victory at the second position. Although Xavier Calvelo and Jakub Medved lost at the top spot to UNLV’s 58th-ranked pair, Utah State entered singles play with a lead.

The Aggies continued their momentum in singles matches, winning straight sets on courts two, three, and six to complete the sweep. Calvelo extended Utah State’s lead with a win at No. 2 singles, followed by Goubin’s victory at No. 6. Venger then secured the clinching point on court three.

Other matches were left unfinished after Utah State clinched overall victory. The win marks Utah State’s fourth consecutive triumph over UNLV and fifth straight home win against them since 2016.

Utah State will next face Nevada at home on Sunday, March 22.
