Utah State University announced on Mar. 26 that Chase Goetschel has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week after his recent performance at the Bell Bank Collegiate tournament in Peoria, Arizona. This is Goetschel’s first conference honor.

The recognition comes after Goetschel, a sophomore from Trabuco Canyon, California, shot a career-low score of 5-under-par 211 to finish tied for fifth place at the Minnesota-hosted event. His performance included an opening round of 3-under 69, followed by rounds of 1-under 71 and 2-under 70.

Goetschel achieved his best collegiate finish at this tournament. It was also his second career under-par finish and marked his first time placing in the top ten. Both his total score over three rounds and overall under-par result are personal bests.

In total, Goetschel now has seven career rounds under par, with three of those being scores in the sixties.

Utah State will continue its spring schedule next week by competing at the Wyoming-hosted Cowboy Classic on March 31 and April 1.
