Utah State cross country and track and field graduate Logan Garnica has been awarded one of 21 NCAA postgraduate scholarships for male student-athletes competing in fall sports, according to a March 16 announcement.
The award recognizes student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. Garnica is the seventh Utah State Aggie to receive this honor since 2000, highlighting the university’s continued success in supporting high-achieving athletes.
Artie Gulden, Utah State’s director of track and field and cross country, said, “This is a fantastic achievement for Logan. He’s our program’s fifth NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in the past 10 years. It’s an honor to work with all these kids who do such a great job being exemplary student-athletes.” Gulden also said, “Logan has been one of our best, combining excellence in the classroom and in athletics. We are all super proud of him, it’s certainly well-deserved.”
Garnica graduated from Utah State University in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies and maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0. He plans to use the $10,000 scholarship to complete his education specialist degree in school psychology. His academic honors include being named the 2024 Elite 90 Award winner for cross country, six-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Mountain West honoree, two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, 2025 CSC Academic All-American, member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for track and field in 2025, as well as four USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams for cross country from 2022-25.
In athletic competition, Garnica earned second-team All-Mountain West honors in cross country in 2024 and set a Utah State record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the 2025 outdoor season. He qualified twice for the NCAA West First Rounds in that event with his best finish at 28th place coming in 2024.
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually—21 per gender per sport season—to student-athletes who have completed their undergraduate degrees at member schools. The program was established in 1964 to encourage graduate education among accomplished student-athletes by evaluating achievements across academics, athletics, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and leadership.
