Utah State softball secured a 2-1 victory over Idaho State on March 17 in Pocatello at Miller Ranch Stadium.
The win marks the Aggies’ thirteenth of the season and improves their record to 13-15 overall. The game was closely contested, with both teams recording four hits and no errors.
Freshman pitcher Kendall Cochran played a key role for Utah State, pitching all seven innings. She achieved a career-high seven strikeouts while allowing only four hits and one earned run. This outing marked the second complete game of her collegiate career.
Idaho State took an early lead in the fourth inning after a walk, stolen base, and base hit brought in a run. Utah State did not register its first hit until the fifth inning but rallied in the sixth. Sophomore outfielder Faith Kroening led off with a single, followed by senior catcher Grace Matej reaching on a fielder’s choice. Senior catcher Kaylee Erickson then hit her fourth home run of the season, giving Utah State a 2-1 advantage.
In the seventh inning, Idaho State loaded the bases with three consecutive walks while down to their final out. However, Erickson caught a line drive at first base to end the game and secure the win for Utah State.
Looking ahead, Utah State will return home for a three-game series against Nevada at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field starting Friday, March 20.
