Utah State University’s softball team secured a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday in their final game at the Georgia Classic, held at Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens, Georgia. The win improved the Aggies’ season record to 9-6.
Freshman infielder Jazmin Ramirez had a standout performance, hitting her first career home run in the third inning and driving in three runs during the game. Her homer brought senior outfielder Kya Pratt home, giving Utah State a 2-0 lead. Ramirez also doubled in the fifth inning to score Pratt again.
Seton Hall threatened in the fourth inning by putting two runners on base with one out, but sophomore catcher Jaelyn Castillo managed to stop their advance by recovering a wild pitch and tagging out the lead runner at third base.
Senior pitcher Rylie Pindel pitched a complete game for Utah State, allowing just one earned run and five hits while recording 17 groundouts. Pindel has given up only two earned runs over 12 innings pitched during her appearances at the Georgia Classic.
Ramirez finished the day going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Pratt and junior infielder Keely Goushá each went 2-for-3, with Pratt scoring twice.
Utah State will next compete against Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Utah, and Utah Tech at the Beehive Classic in St. George from February 27 to March 1.
