Utah State softball lost to No. 23 Grand Canyon University 10-1 on March 28 in the second game of a three-game series at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.

The result puts Utah State at a season record of 14-19 overall and 3-5 in Mountain West play. The Aggies kept the contest close until the seventh inning, when Grand Canyon scored five runs to secure their win.

Grand Canyon took an early lead with a two-out home run following two walks, scoring three runs on its first hit of the day. Utah State limited further damage for several innings, allowing only two more runs before the Lopes’ decisive rally in the final frame.

Senior catcher Kaylee Erickson provided Utah State’s only run with a solo home run in the fourth inning, marking her seventh homer of the season and sixteenth of her career. Freshman infielder Jazmin Ramirez followed with a single and freshman Kate Vance added a double, putting runners in scoring position before a strikeout ended the threat.

Utah State finished with five hits and no errors while leaving four runners on base. In pitching, senior Carly Limosnero started for Utah State before senior Rylie Pindel pitched over five innings with four strikeouts. Freshman Jordyn Lish closed out the game.

The Aggies will conclude their series against Grand Canyon at home tomorrow at noon.
