Utah State University’s softball team lost to Kansas 14-0 in a game that ended after five innings at Arrocha Ballpark on Saturday. The Aggies, now with a season record of 10-13, were unable to generate offense against the Jayhawks.
Kansas took control early, scoring 10 runs on nine hits in the first inning, including two home runs. The Jayhawks added two more home runs in the third inning, bringing their lead to 13-0. Utah State managed to get runners on base in the fourth inning when freshman infielder Jazmin Ramirez and senior outfielder Kya Pratt drew walks with two outs, but they were left stranded.
Kansas extended its lead further with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Utah State went down in order in the top of the fifth, ending the game due to the run rule.
Freshman Jordyn Lish started for Utah State and allowed four earned runs before being replaced by senior Rylie Pindel, who gave up five earned runs in less than an inning. Senior Denay Smith then pitched 1.1 innings and allowed four earned runs. Seniors Sydney Saldaña and Carly Limosnero finished out the game; Saldaña allowed one earned run over 1.1 innings while Limosnero threw 0.2 scoreless innings.
Utah State is scheduled to play its home opener against Idaho State at Johnson Field on Tuesday, March 10.
