Utah State softball lost to UNLV 7-4 on Apr. 11 in the first game of a two-game league series at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas.
The game remained scoreless through three innings before both teams began scoring in the fourth. UNLV took an early lead with a three-run home run, but Utah State responded with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman infielder Kate Vance scored on a fielder’s choice, followed by senior outfielder Kya Pratt’s single that brought home another run. Senior infielder Alex Bunton and senior catcher Grace Matej each contributed RBI singles, putting Utah State ahead 4-3.
UNLV regained control in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on five hits, including their second three-run home run of the day. The Aggies finished with eight hits and one error while leaving six runners on base. Vance led at bat for Utah State, going three-for-three, while Bunton recorded two hits from three at-bats.
Utah State used four pitchers during the game. Freshman Kendall Cochran started and pitched for 3.2 innings. Seniors Sydney Saldaña and Rylie Pindel faced seven batters between them before freshman Jordyn Lish completed the final two innings.
The Aggies will play again against UNLV tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., remaining in Las Vegas for the second and final game of this series.
