Utah State softball secured a 4-3 victory against San Diego State on Apr. 2 at SDSU Softball Stadium, with all four runs coming in the final two innings.
The game saw Utah State fall behind early, as San Diego State scored twice in the first inning. Despite getting runners into scoring position in each of the first four innings, Utah State was unable to score until late in the contest.
In the sixth inning, freshman infielder Jazmin Ramirez delivered an RBI single to put Utah State on the board. Senior catcher Grace Matej followed with a hit that tied the game at 2-2. San Diego State regained a brief lead in their half of the sixth before senior infielder Alex Bunton’s sacrifice hit tied it again for Utah State in the seventh inning. With two outs and runners on base, Ramirez doubled to left field, allowing senior catcher Kaylee Erickson to score what would be the winning run.
Senior right-hander Rylie Pindel pitched a complete game for Utah State, her fifth such performance this season. She allowed six hits and three earned runs during her outing. The Aggies collected eight hits overall, led by Erickson and Ramirez with two each.
Utah State (15-20 overall, 4-6 Mountain West) will remain in San Diego for game two of their three-game series against San Diego State tomorrow night.
