Utah State softball will continue Mountain West conference play with a three-game series against the San Diego State Aztecs from April 2 to April 4, according to an announcement on March 31. The Aggies currently hold a record of 14-20 overall and are 3-6 in conference games.
The matchup is significant as it provides Utah State with an opportunity to improve its standing in the Mountain West Conference. The teams have faced each other 45 times before, with San Diego State leading the all-time series, having won seven of the last ten encounters.
All games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and live stats will be available via StatBroadcast. Updates can also be found on USU softball’s social media pages and at UtahStateAggies.com. In their most recent game against Nevada, senior catcher Grace Matej hit a walk-off home run after Kaylee Erickson tied the game with a two-run homer earlier in the inning.
Erickson has been performing strongly since returning from injury, leading her team in batting average during conference play and ranking among league leaders for being hit by pitch. Sophomore outfielder Faith Kroening has also had a breakout season, starting every game so far and improving her batting average significantly compared to last year.
Utah State’s defense is currently ranked third in the Mountain West for fielding percentage at .970. Six players maintain perfect fielding records while seven others are above .950. Pitcher Rylie Pindel leads with four complete games this season—all resulting in wins for Utah State.
After this weekend’s series, Utah State will return home for a doubleheader against Boise State on April 8 at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
