Utah State softball will host No. 23 Grand Canyon for a three-game Mountain West Conference series at Johnson Field from March 27 to March 29.
The matchup is notable as it marks Grand Canyon’s first trip to Logan and Utah State’s continued effort in conference play during its final season in the Mountain West before joining the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026.
The Aggies, with a current record of 14-17 overall and 3-3 in conference play, have faced Grand Canyon five times previously, winning only once. Their last meeting was a five-inning contest in Phoenix last season that ended with a loss for Utah State. The team’s only win against the Lopes came in a road game in 2020.
Last week, Utah State posted a split record of two wins and two losses, including a victory over Idaho State and one win out of three games against Nevada. Senior catcher Kaylee Erickson led offensively with seven hits across four games, including three home runs and six RBIs. In their win over Nevada on March 21, senior catcher Grace Matej hit a walk-off home run after Erickson tied the game earlier that inning.
Other standout performances include senior infielder Alex Bunton’s strong batting since conference play began and sophomore outfielder Faith Kroening’s breakout season after primarily serving as a pinch runner last year. Defensively, Utah State ranks third in the Mountain West with a .970 fielding percentage this season.
Grand Canyon enters ranked No. 23 nationally. The Aggies’ most recent victory over a ranked opponent was against Baylor on Feb. 8, while their highest-ranked win came against Washington in February of 2010.
After this weekend’s series at home, Utah State will travel for another conference matchup at San Diego State from April 2 to April 4.
