Utah State track and field will compete at the 2026 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 14-16, hosted by Fresno State at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.

The event is significant as it offers student-athletes the opportunity to earn team points, All-Mountain West honors, and potential qualification for NCAA national competitions. Utah State is sending a roster of 30 men and 30 women to participate across a range of events including sprints, distance races, relays, jumps, throws, hurdles, steeplechase, decathlon, and pole vault.

Returning nine all-conference performers from last season’s outdoor campaign, Utah State aims to build on previous successes. In the 2025 championships, the Aggie men placed third with 114.5 points while the women finished ninth with 38 points. Senior Logan Hammer secured his third consecutive conference title in men’s pole vault with a meet-record clearance of 5.65 meters. Junior Landon Bott won gold in the men’s 800 meters; seniors Marshall Rasmussen and Javin Richards completed an Aggie sweep of the pole vault podium. On the women’s side last year, junior Shelby Jensen earned silver in the steeplechase.

Heading into this year’s championships, Utah State has qualified or is close to qualifying several individuals and relay teams for NCAA postseason competition. The top finishers at these championships can advance to further rounds held later this month in Fayetteville and potentially reach nationals at Hayward Field in Eugene next month.

Recent performances have seen school records broken by Aggie athletes: Logan Garnica improved his own mark in men’s steeplechase; Sarah Ellis set a new women’s record for the 5,000 meters; Valerie Clark broke the javelin record; while relay teams also set new program bests during invitational meets this spring.

The program has also been recognized during awards season: freshman Henry Tait was named MW Men’s Freshman of the Week on March 24 while Karina Cooper received similar honors on March 31 for women. Multiple athletes have claimed weekly accolades throughout both indoor and outdoor seasons—12 total MW weekly awards were earned during indoor competition alone.

Looking ahead beyond these conference championships are opportunities for more athletes to qualify for NCAA rounds based on their results this week. Fans can follow updates through official social media channels.
