Utah State track and field athletes earned seven medals and scored 83 team points on May 17 during the final day of the 2026 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California.
The event highlighted strong performances by both the men’s and women’s teams, including four results that ranked among the top ten in school history. Artie Gulden, Utah State’s director of track and field and cross country, said, “I’m really proud of both our teams. We have four conference champions and 16 that will receive All-Mountain West recognition, which I believe is the most we’ve had in a very long time.”
Senior Logan Hammer secured his seventh career gold medal in men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.55 meters (18-2.5), becoming the first Aggie to win the same event at four consecutive Mountain West outdoor championships. Junior Landon Bott claimed his second straight outdoor 800-meter title with a winning time of 1:48.18. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team—composed of Daniel Chase, Mathew Hall, David Konan, and Ayodele Ojo Jr.—won their race with a time of 39.87 seconds.
Ayodele Ojo Jr. set a new Utah State program record in the men’s 100 meters with a silver-medal finish at 10.09 seconds after narrowly missing gold in a photo finish against Grand Canyon’s Miguel Rosario. In women’s events, Claire Petersen won bronze in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.44 seconds while Shay Jones earned bronze in the women’s 400 meters clocking in at 52.44 seconds.
At championship’s end, Utah State men finished third overall with 109 points; women placed eighth with a total score of 47 points as Colorado State took home the men’s team title (200 points) while New Mexico won on the women’s side (190 points).
Gulden said, “We’ve had lots of inspiring performances these past few days,” adding that attention now turns to selections for NCAA West First Rounds scheduled for late May.
