Utah State head women’s basketball coach Wesley Brooks announced on Apr. 16 the signing of Danika Galea to the program.
The addition of Galea brings experience and size to Utah State’s roster, which could impact the team’s performance in upcoming seasons.
“Danika will provide a physical interior presence that I have been searching for since I took the job here two years ago,” Brooks said. “Her ability to seal, spin, duck-in and slip with her size and strength makes her a nightmare for our opponents. Add her experience playing 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 internationally and her SEC experience and we feel we hit a home run by signing her.”
Galea is a 6-foot-3 center who spent the last two seasons at Arkansas, where she played in 47 games. During her time there, she averaged 3.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. She scored a career-high ten points three times as a freshman and recorded six rebounds on three occasions, including during an SEC Tournament matchup against Georgia. Last season, she set another personal best with four blocks against Auburn.
Before joining Arkansas, Galea played for Malta’s senior and U22 national teams. She was named MVP at the 2023 FIBA U18 Division C tournament after averaging 29 points and 19 rebounds per game on over sixty-five percent shooting from the field, helping Malta secure its first gold medal in that event since 2007. In this year’s FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries, she contributed an average of over thirteen points and seven rebounds per game as Malta reached the championship final.
