Utah State University’s women’s basketball team lost to New Mexico, 69-54, on Wednesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.

The Aggies started the game evenly with the Lobos. Sophomore guard Elise Livingston hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter, helping Utah State tie the score at 10-10. However, New Mexico went on an 8-0 run early in the second quarter and maintained a lead for most of the game. Junior guard/forward Jamisyn Heaton scored five points in that period, while Livingston, senior forward Rachel Wilson, junior guard Aaliyah Gayles and freshman guard Aitana Rosello Lopez also contributed baskets. Utah State trailed by nine at halftime with a score of 32-23.

In the third quarter, Utah State narrowed the gap to seven points after a three-pointer from Gayles. The Lobos responded with consecutive three-pointers to extend their lead back into double digits. At one point New Mexico led by as many as 17 points before Utah State managed a short scoring run, including an and-one play by Heaton—her second such play in that quarter. Despite cutting the deficit to 12 points several times into the fourth quarter, New Mexico pulled away with a late 13-4 run.

Aaliyah Gayles led Utah State with 15 points along with four rebounds and a steal. Elise Livingston added 14 points on five-of-ten shooting—including two three-pointers—and collected three rebounds. Jamisyn Heaton finished with 11 points and had two blocks; she also tied Rachel Wilson for team-high honors in rebounds with five each. Wilson ended her night with six points plus two assists, one steal and one block. Senior guard Karyn Sanford had three assists.

Utah State shot 36.4 percent from the field (20-for-55), made four of twenty-two attempts from beyond the arc (18.2 percent), and converted ten out of twelve free throws (83.3 percent). The Aggies held New Mexico to just under thirty-seven percent shooting overall but allowed them to make half of their shots from long range (12-for-24). In other statistics, Utah State outscored New Mexico in paint points (28-22) and had a slight edge in points off turnovers (12-10).

The Aggies committed only nine personal fouls during the game—a single-digit total that ties for most games in program history alongside seasons in 2011-12 and 2021-22 where this mark was reached previously. They also recorded just eight turnovers; it is only the second time ever that both fouls and turnovers were kept below ten in one game.

Looking ahead, Utah State (6-21 overall; 2-16 conference) will travel for its final regular season road game against Boise State on Saturday, February 28 at 2 p.m., before returning home for Senior Day against Nevada on Tuesday, March 3 at 6 p.m.
