Utah State women’s tennis lost to No. 63 Grand Canyon by a score of 4-1 on March 22 at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan.

The match began with doubles play, where Utah State’s Olivia Halvorsen and Terezia Mlkva secured a convincing 6-1 win at the top spot. However, Grand Canyon responded by winning the second and third doubles matches, taking the opening point for an early lead. Natalie Paterova and Sabina Pintea were defeated 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Chahd Tourkhani narrowly lost in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

In singles competition, Grand Canyon extended its advantage with victories at the third, sixth, and first positions. Utah State’s only point came from freshman Sabina Pintea, who won her match at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Despite pushing three of the remaining matches to three sets, Utah State was unable to close the gap as Grand Canyon clinched wins at both the third and first singles spots. Matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles were left unfinished.

The Aggies now hold a record of seven wins and seven losses overall this season, with one win and three losses in Mountain West Conference play. Grand Canyon improved its record to ten wins and seven losses.

Utah State will continue its four-match home stand next week with matches against UNLV on Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m., followed by Nevada on Sunday, March 29 at the same time.
