Utah State women’s tennis lost a close match to UNLV, 4-2, on March 27 at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan. The Aggies competed against a team tied for first place in the Mountain West standings.
The outcome was significant as Utah State faced one of the top teams in their conference and demonstrated strong play throughout the contest. The match included several closely contested sets and showcased competitive efforts from both teams.
In doubles play, Utah State responded to an early loss at No. 1 doubles by winning at the second and third positions. Natalie Paterova and Sabina Pintea secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Chahd Tourkhani clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Singles matches remained tight, with UNLV earning wins at the top two spots before Tourkhani brought Utah State even with a straight-set victory at position five. Three singles matches went to three sets, but late wins by UNLV players at positions four and six sealed their overall team victory.
The official results list Utah State victories in doubles (No. 2: Paterova/Pintea; No.3: Ramos Garcia/Tourkhani) and singles (No.5: Tourkhani). For UNLV, wins came from Kliuch (No.1 singles), Mircheva (No.2 singles), Kis-Czako (No.4 singles), Sokolvak (No.6 singles), as well as Hawkins/Mircheva in No.1 doubles.
Utah State will conclude its four-match home stand by hosting Nevada on Sunday, March 29, with competition set for 11 a.m.
