Utah State women’s tennis lost to No. 31 San Diego State, 4-0, on March 20 during the first of a four-match home stand at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan.
The match was significant as it marked the beginning of an important stretch of home games for Utah State, providing the team with opportunities to compete against strong opponents and improve its standing.
In doubles play, Utah State faced a challenging lineup that included the nation’s 50th-ranked doubles team at the top spot. The Aggies were defeated on courts one and three, allowing San Diego State to secure an early lead. Sophomore Natalie Paterova and freshman Sabina Pintea competed closely at the second position but left their match unfinished while trailing 3-2 after the doubles point was clinched by San Diego State.
During singles competition, Utah State continued to put up a fight but ultimately fell as San Diego State claimed victories at the first, fifth, and sixth positions. Pintea managed to win her first set in a tiebreaker at the No. 2 position and was tied in her second set when play was stopped due to San Diego State clinching the overall match. Matches at positions two, three, and four were left unfinished.
Utah State’s record now stands at 7-6 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play following this result. The Aggies will continue their home stand against Grand Canyon on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m.
