Utah State women’s tennis defeated Colorado State 4-0 on March 15 at the Genesis Health Club in Fort Collins, improving its Mountain West record to 1-1 and overall record to 7-5.

The win is significant as it marks Utah State’s first conference victory of the season, giving the team momentum as they continue Mountain West play. The Aggies secured the doubles point after sophomore Natalie Paterova and freshman Sabina Pintea won their match at the second position, followed by a close victory from sophomore Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and freshman Chahd Tourkhani at No. 3 doubles.

In singles competition, Ramos Garcia extended Utah State’s lead with a straight-sets win at No. 5 singles. Pintea then added another point for the Aggies with a three-set victory at the second position. Freshman Terezia Mlkva clinched the match for Utah State by winning her contest at the top spot after dropping a first-set tiebreaker but coming back to take the next two sets.

At the time of clinching, matches involving Paterova, Tourkhani, and Kylee Sperry were still ongoing in third sets but were left unfinished due to Utah State securing enough points for victory.

Looking ahead, Utah State will return home to begin a four-match homestand during conference play. The Aggies are scheduled to face San Diego State on Friday, March 20, followed by Grand Canyon on Sunday, March 22.
