Utah State women’s tennis defeats Fresno State 4-2 in road match

Utah State women’s tennis earned a 4-2 victory over Fresno State on April 2 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Complex in Fresno, California.

The win is significant for Utah State as it came during Mountain West conference play and on the road, providing momentum for the team as they continue their season.

In doubles action, Utah State secured the opening point with wins at the second and third positions. After Fresno State claimed a win at No. 1 doubles, Terezia Mlkva and Kylee Sperry responded with a victory at No. 2, while Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Chahd Tourkhani clinched the point with their win at No. 3.

During singles play, freshman Chahd Tourkhani extended Utah State’s lead by winning her match at No. 5 singles in straight sets. Redshirt junior Magdalena Nunez Pureco followed with another straight-set victory at No. 6 singles to put Utah State ahead by two points after Fresno State had taken one back at No. 3 singles.

The decisive moment came when freshman Terezia Mlkva outlasted her opponent in three sets to secure the clinching point for Utah State at No.1 singles. The remaining match was halted once the team result was decided.

Looking ahead, Utah State will continue its Mountain West schedule on Saturday, April 4 against San Jose State in San Jose, California.
