Utah State women’s tennis edged out by Idaho in close home match

Utah State University’s women’s tennis team lost a close match to Idaho, finishing 4-3 at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan on Sunday.

The Aggies started strong in doubles play. Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Chahd Tourkhani secured a 6-1 win at the third doubles position. Natalie Paterova and Sabina Pintea followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, clinching the doubles point for Utah State. The top doubles match, featuring Olivia Halvorsen and Terezia Mlkva against Jessica Matthews and Naomi Schraeder of Idaho, was abandoned with Idaho leading 4-3 but Utah State ahead 40-15 in the game.

In singles competition, Idaho responded by winning matches at the first two positions to take a 2-1 lead overall. Ramos Garcia brought Utah State back into contention with a win at No. 4 singles, taking her match 7-6 (6), 6-2 after winning a tiebreaker in the first set. Tourkhani gave Utah State another point with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.

Idaho then regained momentum with Hanna Koprowska defeating Paterova in three sets at No. 3 singles. Soha Singh clinched the overall win for Idaho by defeating Nadine Abid at No. 6 singles, ending the match with a final score of Idaho 4, Utah State 3.

Utah State now prepares to begin Mountain West conference play. The Aggies will travel to Wyoming on Friday, March 13, before facing Colorado State on Sunday, March 15.
