Utah State women’s tennis defeated San Jose State 4-3 on April 4 at the Spartan Tennis Complex in San Jose, California.
The win marks Utah State’s third consecutive victory, a streak not achieved since 2022 and the first time in conference play since 2019. The result is significant for the Aggies as it demonstrates progress within their program and momentum during conference competition.
In doubles play, Utah State claimed the opening point with victories at the second and third positions. Kylee Sperry and Terezia Mlkva secured a win at No. 2 doubles, while Maria Paula Ramos Garcia and Chahd Tourkhani clinched a tight match at No. 3 doubles to give USU an early lead. In singles action, Tourkhani delivered a dominant performance at No. 5 singles before San Jose State responded with wins on courts two, three, and four to take a temporary lead.
The deciding matches came down to the top and bottom singles spots. Mlkva rallied after losing her first-set tiebreak to earn a three-set victory at No.1 singles, keeping Utah State in contention. Magdalena Nunez Pureco completed the comeback by overcoming an initial setback in her own tiebreaker to secure another three-set win at No.6 singles, sealing the overall team victory for Utah State.
With this result, Utah State improves its record to 10-8 overall and an even mark of 4-4 in Mountain West Conference play while San Jose State falls to 7-11 overall and remains winless in conference matches.
Utah State will conclude its three-match road trip against New Mexico on Friday, April 10.
