City of Mendon issued the following announcement on May 25.
Little Red Riding Hood is coming to Mendon Little Red cyclists will be riding through Mendon on Saturday, June 4th from approximately 10:00 am – 2:30pm. The impacted roads are SR 23, Center St, and Main St. They ride to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute to fight breast and ovarian cancer in women. Little Red Riding Hood, now in its 33rd year, has raised nearly $ 1 million for cancer research. In 2019, Little Red cyclists raised more than $130,000 to fight cancer. Little Red Riding Hood’s goal is to celebrate life, increase cancer awareness for women and contribute to cancer research, while providing a fun and safe ride for our riders, our volunteers, and the citizens of Cache Valley. Riders as young as 10 to ones in their 80s participate in Little Red. The popular event is organized by Utah’s Bonneville Cycling Club and has drawn riders not only from Cache Valley and the Wasatch Front, but from 46 states, Canada, and Australia. Routes will range from 17 to 100 miles long. The roads will be marked with yard signs to keep riders on the course, and the signs will be removed after the ride. The money raised for cancer research comes from a portion of each rider's entry fee. Although only women can ride, men participate by staffing the rest stops where the riders fuel up on snacks and other food. To everyone’s delight, there’s a costumed Big Bad Wolf who loves to pose for photos with riders. When you see riders pass by, you can participate by cheering them on.
